We Bought a House!

Two years ago, we sold our house in Santa Cruz for a number of reasons but with the expectation that we’d buy again in the area once my husband’s newly founded company existed for a few years. Unfortunately for us, the market skyrocketed out of our price range and we were stuck in a (beautiful) rental that was not aligning with our F.I.R.E. lifestyle we were trying to implement into our lives, so we started to think about our options.

Both Dustin and I had left our jobs to work for ourselves and could more or less move wherever we want. I had grown accustomed to the west coast mentality (and relative lack of oppressive humidity) and knew we didn’t want to trickle too far east, so we started researching locations in the west.

I came across this article rated the happiest places to live. Boulder, Colorado was listed as #1, followed by Santa Cruz, which didn’t come as a huge surprise. Unfortunately both were incredibly expensive places to try to put some roots. What did surprise us was #4- Fort Collins, CO. I knew nothing about Fort Collins, but I was ready to research (because I’m a psychotic researcher about everything- seriously, I should be a PI). Turns out, Fort Collins is pretty awesome and it’s catching on!

So, we made a quick decision, I found short term rental the same day, and started to plan our journey to Colorado. After a few months of settling in and riding the stressful real estate train, we finally closed on a mid century modern ranch with a fireplace to die for. We have big plans for this house which I will certainly share on this blog, partly to hold me accountable, partly to get some feedback from people who know better, and partly to document this exciting time in our lives.

So far, we’ve painted most of the darker walls a beautiful shade of white and did some hardcore yard work. Stay tuned for lots of home renovation and garden projects in the future!
