Featuring the Schweiger Family at Baker Beach

Are you wondering if a beach session is right for you and your little one? Having photographed a number of older babies and toddlers at the beach (including my own), I can offer some tips on how to make it work so you don’t end up with freezing, crying kids.

A baby photo session at Baker Beach is my idea of a perfect backdrop. From the cityscape to the Golden Gate Bridge, to the large cypress trees, to the Wes Anderson vibe army barracks, there are a variety of interesting backdrops for our photo session. If your baby is young enough, I can bring my bassinet and tuck it into the ice plant for a unique perspective.

Timing is crucial—aim for earlier in the morning or close to sunset to harness the subtle coastal lighting that enhances the variety of scenes. The cool air, potential fog, and diverse surroundings make Baker Beach a photographer's playground.

Instead of beach hats and swimsuits, consider dressing your babe in snug, layered outfits to combat the coastal chill. A small beanie and cozy jacket can prove both practical and cute against the backdrop of the bridge and barracks. Incorporate elements like a beach blanket or a basket to complement the surroundings.

Baker Beach's convenience extends beyond its aesthetic diversity. With easy parking, accessible bathrooms, and my basic plan for navigating the session to capture each unique backdrop, the focus can remain on capturing authentic moments. I keep things moving, encourage snack breaks and exploring the beach so your baby stays curious instead of cranky.
