Outdoor Family Newborn Session | Boulder Newborn Photographer | Sunshine Lady Photography

When you are a photographer, it’s quite easy to become isolated, save for your client interaction. Luckily, I met fellow photog Sara at a local photographer Christmas party in 2019, and we hit it off! Although she’s recently moved to Jacksonville, Florida, we still found time to collaborate and photograph each other throughout the past year. This session below took place in about 20 mins after I filmed her photographing a family for her website, making this a motherhood + branding kind of session. To say that the Prices were easy to photograph is an understatement!

I asked Sara to answer a few questions for you lucky readers about motherhood, photography, and her business approach. Keep going to read and see their beautiful images!

Who are you and what do you do?

I'm Sara, I'm a mama of two and a photographer who focuses on capturing families as authentically as possible. A departure from the smile say cheese pictures :)

Why do you do what you do?

You know how you're totally obsessed with your babies little toes when they arrive or the way your toddler looks when they're running (bow legged and adorable) ? Yeah- me too! I wanted to find a way to slow the time down and capture those sweet moments not only for my family but for other families as well. I have a formal art background and it all conspired to lead me to professional photographer.

What is the best part and what is the worst part about what you do.

Best part- all the obvious tid-bits (capturing families, seeing new places, meeting new people, being around children who are serious lights in the world, making a families' day with their photos) Worst part- the 'business' part. Being a creative and having to monetize it all and make a living is so LAME- like... can't we just go back to bartering?

Describe a real-life situation that inspired you.

I remember when I got my maternity photos taken by Lauren Wright who is a total bad ass boss babe and I could sing her praises forever. Anyways- I had the most incredible, laid back, heartfelt, warm experience with her. I remember when she left I was in an afterglow and felt so inspired to embark on my own photography journey. I should note I wasn't starting from scratch, I had an art background and got my first film camera when I was 10 years old. So- yeah- totally inspired and I started my photography journey there !

What superpower would you have and why?

Be in two places at one time, for sure!

Name something you love and why you love it.

TRAVEL. VACATION. THE BEACH. Any and every excuse to jet set and go somewhere new while not feeling guilty drinking a pina colada at 12 pm sign me up. My family and I love traveling and chasing summer, maybe to a fault haha. We have Costa Rica, Mexico, the keys, and SE ASIA on the horizon for 2021/ 2022!

What is your dream project?

Dream project incorporates travel with my little family and capturing families!

What song inspires you right now?

I'm such a bummer when it comes to music and love all the sad, depressing stuff so I'm going to have to pass on this question haha! (Disclaimer: I’ve heard Sara’s OWN music and she is an amazing singer songwriter!)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Oh man- well my hubby is an incredible advice giver and should most definitely be a business coach. Some super sound advice he's given in the past months is: 'The project you're avoiding the most holds your biggest potential for growth.' Ohhhh- even typing it out again- it totally hits big time.

What did you enjoy most about your photo session?

UM- well my children weren't exactly cooperative. My newborn cried 80% of the time (poor thing) and we were running behind and STILL- the magic that you captured. I am still blown away and cannot wait to get these super big on my wall. Incredible Kate- truly!
