A Sunnyside Lifestyle Newborn Session

Jody reached out to me a few weeks before her October due date about photographing a lifestyle newborn session at their cute bungalow in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Denver. I set up a FaceTime meeting and we chatted about our upcoming session (and also confirmed that the other party is not a serial killer- I plan to do this will all newborn sessions in the future btw!). She shared that she and husband Alain are adventurers who love to travel and explore the mountains. They had been dubbing bebe Little Wildflower or Baby Bee because of the association they share with Jody’s mother who she had lost a few years prior. On the day of our shoot I arrived to a happy household full of cards, balloons, and bee decor. As a bee lover, I was more than happy to snap shots off all of the meaningful decor and trinkets Jody had decorated her space with.

Our session was relaxed and beautiful- just like they should be! It was such fun getting to know both Jody and Alain and capture memories of their sweet little Brooklyn. To learn more about Jody’s session and see the magic we made, keep scrolling!

Who are you, what do you do, and where are you from?

I'm Jody, I am a Senior SEO Strategist at a Digital Marketing Agency in Denver CO. I'm originally from the Cayman Islands but lived in FL before moving to CO. My husband Alain a Fire Sprinkler Fitter, we moved to CO a little over 5 years ago.

What did you choose to wear for our shoot?

I chose to wear jeans and a neutral top, I wanted to keep it cozy and casual since it was in our home and the photos were all about Brooklyn.

What did you enjoy most about our photo session?

Watching our family be captured with our new addition. The intimate, sweet moments Kate captured were so special as we just welcomed our little one.

Please define motherhood in your own words.

Motherhood is seeing your whole heart in a little human. It's turning your world upside down in the most wonderful way and letting go of selfish tendencies to ensure your little one is loved and taken care of. Its the most incredible feeling I've ever experienced and there's something new and amazing every single day.

What advice can you give to our Mommy readers?

Give yourself grace and have patience with yourself. There are many times you might doubt yourself, but try not too. Whether you're a first time parent or not, it's a learning experience welcoming a new life into the world so take it day by day and soak up all the moments you can.

If you want to breastfeed, research/take classes before you welcome your little one. Breastfeeding is a wild journey that doesn't always come naturally - we were fortunate enough to get the hang of breastfeeding after a few meetings with a lactation consultant and it's been such a special bonding experience. If you can't or don't want to breastfeed, that's ok too. Fed is best for baby.

What Was The Best Advice On Motherhood Have You Ever Received?

That's a tough one but I like give yourself grace and know you're the best parents for your baby.
