When Kelsey contacted me about her maternity shoot, she mentioned that she was open to anything but was looking for beautiful lighting in an outdoor setting. Our original date ended up rainy, cold, and gray, so to accommodate our busy schedules, we took a chance on a sunrise session at Arapahoe Bend in Fort Collins. As luck would have it, we probably couldn’t have picked a better morning for a glorious, sun-filled session. Kelsey and her husband Tyler were not deterred by the 30 degree weather and Kelsey even rocked heels on the uneven terrain like a pro. What a dreamy maternity session.

Kelsey’s session took place around 32 weeks, which is a good time for maternity sessions for a couple reasons- you most likely still have energy, your baby bump is prominent but not preventing you from being able to move, and your maternity clothes will still fit without getting stretched to the max!

Read more about Kelsey’s experience:

How was your experience during your session?

Laid back, casual, comfortable

What’s one piece of advice you would give to other expecting mothers for the session?

Find something that makes you feel beautiful! Nothing is prettier than a genuine smile.

What outfits did you wear during our shoot, and why did you decide on those?

White floor length/long sleeve dress and Rust floor length/long sleeve dress. Bump flattering and feminine. The dresses were the perfect touch to the raw natural background and complimented the fall colors.

What is something that dad has done for mom during the pregnancy? For example, something that she thought was sweet or something supportive he did?

No short supply of back and shoulder rubs :) Tyler has also been great about helping more around the house to make up for my exhaustion!

What have been your favorite things to do while pregnant?

Walking has been great! I've also loved shopping for and decorating the nursery!

What kind of look were you going for in your photos?

Candid happiness! I wanted to capture the beauty of pregnancy and the wonderful journey it entails.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to other expecting mothers for the session?

Find something that makes you feel beautiful! Nothing is prettier than a genuine smile.

Has your pregnancy gone pretty smoothly or has it been a tough one?

Can't complain! It has been smooth sailing and I feel very lucky!

Is there anything you were self-conscious about going into the session? If so, what?

My overall size. The last time I had professional photos taken was my wedding, and I was MUCH smaller haha.

Do you have a name picked out yet? How/why did you choose this name?

Montgomery (Monty) James Hensen. Montgomery is a family name on my mom's side.

Kelsey’s maternity session proved a few things: 1. sunrise sessions are amaaaaazing, 2. nothing is more beautiful than a glowing pregnant lady, and 3. Kelsey is tough as nails. I can’t wait to meet and photograph the little man!
