Building Our Colorado Raised Garden Beds | Sunshine Lady Photography
Garden Adventures
Last year, we bought our house in the middle of July. Unfortunately, Colorado’s growing season is short and by then, we only had a few tomatoes I had planted in pots in the spring to call our garden. This year, especially with the extra time to think thanks to quarantining at home, I asked my husband to build me some raised beds. My dream is to create a semi wild garden with raised beds for my epic Colorado garden.
Why the garden beds in the first place? During one of our summer walks last year, we stumbled upon some really nice neighbors who invited us in for some wine. As it turns out, one of the neighbors works for the horticulture department at Colorado State University, and she explained that due to the crazy Colorado weather, it’s best to plant tomatoes in metal planter boxes so that metal insulates the garden and the heat stays inside the box. Makes sense!
After finding a plan, spending a couple hundred bucks on supplies, and working hard over the weekends, we were able to get my babies up and running. Here are a few shots from the process. Stay tuned for garden updates!
