Walking in Lory State Park

Winter is not on the top of my list when it comes to favorite seasons. I just love to be able to walk outside and go, with minimal preparation, and winter doesn't always allow for that. Luckily, while we were home over the Christmas break (our trip to the east coast was cancelled due to covid), the weather was unseasonably mild and we got to spend quite a bit of time outside exploring. And it was fun!

In the past, and even more so during our hot summers, hiking with kids was more of a chore than fun activity. Now that my youngest is 4, there’s a whole lot less crying and asking to be carried. She can move those little legs up the rocks and hills, albeit a little slower and for less time than the rest of us, but she’s getting better every day.

Besides trying to figure out ways to entertain my kids while they were off school, our hike was also a scouting opportunity to find new spots in Lory, one of my go-to locations. And I have to say, these golden grasses during Colorado’s winters are JUST what I love to include in my photography.

I also used this hike as an opportunity to try out my new Fujifilm X100V. I have wanted to upgrade my x100 for a long time, and I finally found a deal on the Fujifilm X100V that I couldn’t pass up. While it doesn’t have the same features as my mirrorless Nikons, I have to say, the colors with Fuji are always just so beautiful. What do you think about these pics?
