Five Reasons to Do an In Home Family Session featuring The Brody Family

Rachael reached out to me about photographing her family in their beautiful Boulder home, where she had raised her family the past ten years, to commemorate and celebrate it before their move to their new home. She wanted me to capture her family LIVING in the home, enjoying all the spaces they’d so lovingly created over the years, and we had a very limited window of time to make it happen. Although we didn’t get the bright sun shiny day of my dreams, we were able to push off one day to avoid an overcast snowy day (to just an overcast day-ha) and capture the family playing, dancing, singing (holler Encanto soundtrack), praying, cuddling, and enjoying the last moments in their home before they had to depersonalize it to put it on the market.

I’m just going to be honest- shooting inside can be intimidating for photographers, especially natural light ones like myself. You never know what the lighting situation will be and if all the walls are painted dark, deep colors, it can be very easy to end up with flat images. It’s important as a client to work with a photographer who can show you a body of indoor work to ensure you are going to get the images you want. It has taken me literally years to feel comfortable shooting indoors without a flash because I have LEARNED how to use my camera and find the light.

With that, if you are considering whether or not YOU want to invite a photographer (such as myself :)) into your home, here are the top five reasons to go for it.

Reason 1

You’ll be more comfortable.

Reason 2

Your kids can interact and shine authentically.

Reason 3

You can capture how your home is a part of your family’s life.

Reason 4

We can shoot anytime of day (great with little ones who can’t make it through a 7 pm sunset session).

Reason 5

Your images will be uniquely yours.
