Helen Putnam Family Session | Petaluma, California | Sunshine Lady Photography
Featuring the Pierce Family
One thing I love most about my work is getting to know my clients. In a fairly isolating line of work, I enjoy socializing with my clients as much as I enjoy photographing them. I love to ask new parents about their experiences with welcoming their babies and the surprises and unexpected joys they experience in the process. I asked Laura, who I photographed at Helen Putnam in Petaluma, if she wouldn’t mind answering some questions for me about motherhood, and she obliged! Keep going to read her responses.
Who are you, what do you do, and where are you from?
I've lived in the Bay Area for 7 years, originally from Ohio. I'm a wife and a mom of two - a baby born last summer and a dog we adopted from the SF SPCA. I love books, getting outdoors, and bringing people together. I work in Change Management at a tech company.
What did you choose to wear for our shoot?
We went with neutrals and blues for this shoot. I wore a Faherty sweater dress and Nisolo booties. Put my husband in a plaid button down and jeans, and my son in navy overalls from Maison Me. He also wore handmade baby shoes we picked up on our honeymoon in Chile.
What did you enjoy most about our photo session?
I loved Kate's relaxed approach. She was patient with our family and also very present. She was able to see how our family was interacting and pivot her ideas for poses to best suit us that day. She had an ease and comfort to her that allowed us to relax and be ourselves. Overall, Kate was a joy to work with and we look forward to booking her again.
Please Define Motherhood In Your Own Words.
The most pure, life changing, and purpose-giving experience.
What Advice Can You Give Our Mommy Readers?
We live in an age of information overload. Try to block out the noise and do what's best for you and your family. Comparison really is the thief of joy.
What Was The Best Advice On Motherhood Have You Ever Received?
There's a reason everyone tells you time goes fast when you have kids. This reminds me to be present and not spend too much time worrying, or "future-tripping." I also love the reminder to give yourself grace through the constant changes.
