BUilding our modern backyard studio Part 1

When we bought our supercool mid century modern house in Fort Collins, we assumed that the three bedrooms would plenty enough space for us- the girls can share a room, we get a bedroom, and the weird bedroom by the front door would become my husband’s office. This was, of course, before we knew a pandemic was on its way that would force us all to be together all day every day in our home. My husband is on the phone a lot, so one can imagine the CHAOS of trying to get in and out of the house (with dogs barking each and every time) when getting ready and unloading all of our crap next to his office and trying to remain quiet. Sorry, not happening.

I initially planned to create a backyard studio as my photography studio where I hoped to bring clients and create beautiful portraits. Yet, after we started to come up with plans for my space, I realized more and more that it makes no sense for me to be outside, away from the kids, and my husband inside, trying to talk on the phone and manage them while attending online school. I’m not much into gender codes, but I do know that I am better able to manage my work and helping our kids at the same time than my husband is. Thus, we started brainstorming a backyard studio for my husband to build and work out of.

Although it’s STILL not finished, it’s certainly getting there and I will post an update soon! We also plan to sell our plans on Etsy, so keep a lookout for them in the near future! I’d love to hear your thoughts so far.

Fun Stuff

What I’m reading: Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, which is the story of a bunch of punks rockers whose lives intersect as they age.

What I’m listening to: My recent “Saturday Morning Errands” playlist I created that reminds me of riding in with my dad in his truck on weekend mornings to get supplies at the hardware store.

What I’m watching: Field Trip with Curtis Stone, a food show about his travels to lands that inspire his restaurants, and showcases some of the most beautiful and tasty places on the planet, such as Central Coast California, Australia, and Hawaii. Curtis has a great sense of humor too, which makes it fun to watch him interact with his hosts.
